A weekly Devotional based on the sermon "Cops, Robbers and......" from 9/28/25
Day 1: The Heart of Stewardship Reading: Malachi 3:8-12 Devotional: Today's reading challenges us to consider our relationship with God through the lens of stewardship. The prophet Malachi presents a striking image: the possibility of "robbing God" through withholding tithes and offerings. This isn't about God needing our resources, but rather about our hearts and priorities. As you reflect, consider how your use of time, talents, and treasures reflects your trust in God. Are there areas where you might be "holding back" from God? Remember, true stewardship flows from a place of gratitude and faith, not obligation. How might your life change if you fully embraced God's invitation to "test Him" in this area? Today, take a step towards greater trust by identifying one way you can be more generous with what God has given you.
Day 2: The Power of Integrity Reading: Proverbs 11:1-3, 20:7 Devotional: These proverbs highlight the value God places on integrity and honesty. In a world where "little" deceptions are often overlooked, God calls us to a higher standard. Reflect on areas in your life where you might be tempted to cut corners or bend the truth. How does maintaining integrity, even in small matters, shape your character and witness? Consider the legacy of integrity mentioned in Proverbs 20:7 - how does your commitment to honesty impact those around you, especially the next generation? Today, commit to radical honesty in your words and actions, trusting that God honors those who walk in integrity.
Day 3: Contentment in Christ Reading: Philippians 4:11-13, 1 Timothy 6:6-10 Devotional: Paul's words on contentment strike at the heart of why we might be tempted to steal or covet what others have. True contentment isn't based on our circumstances, but on our relationship with Christ. Reflect on times when you've felt truly content - what was the source of that peace? How does the promise that we can do "all things through Christ" apply to finding contentment in any situation? Consider areas in your life where discontentment might be creeping in. How can you refocus on the sufficiency of Christ in those areas? Today, practice gratitude by listing five blessings you often take for granted, and thank God for His provision.
Day 4: Generosity as Worship Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 Devotional: This passage reframes our giving as an act of worship and a reflection of God's character. Paul emphasizes that God loves a "cheerful giver" - not someone who gives out of compulsion or guilt. How does viewing generosity as an opportunity rather than an obligation change your perspective? Reflect on times when you've experienced the joy of giving. How did that impact your relationship with God and others? Consider the promise that God is able to make "all grace abound" to us - how might trusting this promise free you to be more generous? Today, look for an unexpected way to bless someone else, whether through your resources, time, or encouragement.
Day 5: Using Our Gifts for God's Glory Reading: 1 Peter 4:10-11, Romans 12:6-8 Devotional: These passages remind us that our spiritual gifts are not for our own benefit, but for serving others and glorifying God. Reflect on the unique abilities and passions God has given you. Are you using these gifts in ways that serve others and point them to Christ? Consider how "stealing" from God might include not fully utilizing the gifts He's entrusted to us. How can you more intentionally steward your gifts for His purposes? Remember, using our gifts isn't about perfection, but about faithfulness and reliance on God's strength. Today, identify one way you can use a gift or talent to encourage someone else or serve in your community, and take a step towards doing that this week.
